I always knew, that I am going to do something creative, because already as a child, I always had the constant need to draw, and was the happiest kid with a pen in my hands. It was my goal to create art, to be my own boss, and to be able to pay my bills by doing art. Since the age of thirteen, I worked hard to become a tattooartist.
After school I gambled everything on this one single card and moved to Berlin to learn the craft of tattooing, because If you make it in Berlin you can make it everywhere. My dream came true. I see potential in establishing tattoos as an art form. It's a craft and a service, no question, but for the client and the artist, it is also a form of self-expression. The body is a blank space and the tattoo makes it an artwork and the clients own history. Whether an outsider finds it beautiful or not is irrelevant to me. My goal is that the customer is satisfied with the tattoo. "Art wasn't supposed to look nice, it was suppose to make you feel something" (Rainbow Rowell).
The beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as soon as you feel something, whether aversion or joy, the art has fulfilled its purpose.
I like dark illustrations, otherwise I like to use a variety of techniques or be inspired by old copperplate engravings and etchings for my designs. From dotwork to watercolor, but one thing I remain true to: The color Black. For me, tattooing is like a ritual, a magical practice, a meditation and a constant spiritual growth process. When I draw a line, sometimes I stop breathing and create the perfect mindful moment, and it feels like the time stands still for a second. For my motives I do careful research. I use a variety of sources; from documentaries and myths to techniques of old masters and their works of art.
Too bad that tattooing is seen by many as a "service" and not as an art form. Even if the result does not seem like an art to some, the whole effort a tattoo artist makes is definitely to see as an art process. From the research, the sketches to the finished design. The finished result on the body I see as a form of self-expression and of course as art.
ONLY BLACK IS TRUE AND HONEST
